The drive to Horseshoe Lake was fun. After Monon Lake, the road truly became a one-lane road with a few pullouts. It switchbacked up a hill and required 4-wheel drive. We drove it in our truck. The whole forest was heavily burnt throughout this area, and when we came to Horseshoe Lake, the whole campground was completely burnt through, and the whole area around the lake was heavily burnt. The campground is closed to camping. We parked at a site along the water and ate our lunch at one of the picnic tables. It was a great spot.

I walked through the campground and down FS 4220 to the east side of the lake. I thought the shape of the lake was really neat, especially the inlet on the south side near the rock field. I'd love to explore this lake by kayak sometime. The whole time were were there, we didn't see anyone else.
