The Pete French Round Barn is a unique and historical landmark. It is more “out of the way” than the other historical structures in the Blitzen Valley such as those within Malheur National Wildlife Refuge. The round barn is a place I’ve been many times throughout my childhood. The round barn was built by Pete French in the 1880’s.
The reason I wanted to stop by this year was because a person told my dad there was Great Horned Owls with babies nesting in the barn. So we stopped by in the morning before our long drive home. I spent a good hour taking pictures. There was a male, female, and two babies. We had the barn all to ourselves the whole time. In the past it’s been crows that have nested in the barn so it was pretty cool to get to see Great Horned Owls this time around. Regardless of whether there are birds or not, the barn is unique and something to see at least once.
