A popular lake with fishing and a campground in Wallowa-Whitman National Forest.
Lake Name: Fish Lake Lake Coordinates: 45.04679, -117.09261 Lake Elevation: 6660′ Access: Drive up Note: Campground fee is $6 at time of post. Date: 8-18-20
Fish Lake was more popular than Twin Lakes. It had bathrooms and what appeared to be potable water. I went on a week day so the first part of the campground was full, but the second part was totally empty. There are camping spots all along the lake’s edge. I stopped at an empty site to go down to the lake and take a quick picture (it isn’t a good picture and it doesn’t do the lake justice). I was in a bit of a rush because a thunderstorm was moving in and I wanted to get back down to where I was planning on camping that night before the storm hit.
I know Fish Lake is popular for fishing. There were people out in canoes and people fishing from the shoreline. I imagine the campground is popular especially on the weekends. It would be a nice place to come back to and fish.
How to get there (from Joseph, OR)
Take Oregon State 350 for 7.5 miles out of Joseph, OR. Turn right on Hells Canyon Scenic Byway (turns into FS 39) and continue for 40 miles. Turn right on FS 66 and proceed for 14.8 miles. Turn right on FS 400 which is the road that goes through the campground.
